The 2012 edition of Lagos Notes and Records is divided into two: volume 18 number 1 and volume 18 number 2. This is volume 18 number 1. It contains articles in diverse humanities disciplines beginning with Tony Afejuku’s paper, “Autobiography as Biography: A Commentary on Wole Soyinka’s Creation of Characters in Ake,” which explores the link between fiction and factual rendition. William Marling’s paper examines the patterns of child soldier narratives and the ensuing Americanization of the genre. Augustina Dzregah investigates emergent issues of masculinities in Beloved while Bosede Afolayan assesses notions of intertextualities in the drama of Hope Eghagha.
Charles Nwachukwu’s paper re-visits the prognostications of Quests and Associates in the light of present day advertising realities. Solomon Azumurana undertakes a psychoanalytic journey into Baldwin’s Go Tell it on the Mountain while Olakunbi Olasope examines the social status and utility of prostitution in the classical period in Athens. Abisoye Eleshin’s paper reviews the contribution of Chomsky to the discipline of linguistics, while Oladipo Ajiboye investigates the phenomenon of À-ì-derived nominals in Yorùbá. Akaenyi Nkiruka’s paper assesses the conceptualization of masculinities in modern Nigerian drama. Feyisayo Ademola-Adeoye’s paper is an exhaustive analysis of Hyper-ECM constructions and Felix Okunsebor analyses the vital link between the English Language and Spelling Pronunciation in Esan English bilinguals.
With the depth of insights provided by the authors of the articles in this edition, the reader is invited to navigate different directions of humanistic endeavours.
